Long Beach Real Time Positives (RT+s) is the latest HIV support group to form here at the CARE Program. The group meets at 5:30 every Wednesday on the campus of St. Mary Medical Center in the Parr Health Enhancement Center. The building is next to the parking structure and the group meets on the 2nd floor.
Since March of this year, Support Positive has met at The Center-Long Beach. That group has been for those recently diagnosed (in the past two years). For some people who are not out or not gay, walking in the doors of the gay and lesbian center may be too big of a step. There have also been younger folks who have shown up once, and were surprised to find the ages of those who were newly diagnosed ranging from their twenties to fifties, and had a difficult time relating to those with HIV who were also dealing with aging issues as well.
For these and other reasons, Real Time Positives was formed. It's an opportunity for everyone with HIV under thirty to meet others like them, and also find ways to a manage doctor visits and medications along with dating, school, or starting a career.
